Yellowstone Season 5: Interviews with Luke Grimes, Gil Birmingham, Wes Bentley & Kelsey Asbille!

Last Updated on November 14, 2022

Yellowstone Season 5 premieres with a double episode on Sunday night, and once again, I was lucky enough to sit down with much of the cast for a look ahead to the new season. Of course, given how twisty the show is, everyone was pretty tightlipped about what to expect, but from what they told me, I expect major changes in store for the Dutton family this season.

One of the most prominent threads open from last season was Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) and Monica’s (Kelsey Asbille) ultimate fate, with the season ending with the former going on a vision quest that showed him “the end of us.” I asked Grimes if Kayce was talking about him and Monica or the Duttons in general, and he mentioned that Taylor Sheridan left things deliberately vague. However, he teased a significant event at the end of the premiere, which would change things for Kayce and Monica, with Asbille agreeing. Interestingly, she said Monica and Kevin Costner’s John Dutton are drawn closer together this season, with the two always having a frosty relationship before.

One of the guys I always like talking to the most is Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie, the Dutton everyone loves to hate. By contrast, Bentley is a great guy who relishes the on-screen clashes between him and Kelly Reilly’s Beth. As he tells it, you shouldn’t expect the two to patch things up any time soon. And finally, I talked with the great Gil Birmingham, who opened up about Thomas Rainwater’s responsibility to his community, and the clashing ideals he has with the younger generation on the show – personified by Q’orianka Kilcher’s Angela Blue Thunder.

Suffice it to say, Yellowstone season 5 will be heavy-duty, and one can see why the show’s popularity has grown so much over the years. It is one of the best shows on TV. Check out our review of the fifth season premiere here!
