Heist in the age of Social Media

As Crime 101 showed earlier this year, the good old-fashioned genre of cops and robbers can still be made with modern updates to technology. That movie showed how cell phone apps and certain website methods can be used to the advantage of the criminals. In David Leitch’s new film, How to Rob a Bank, a group of young bank robbers take their jobs to social media and grow a fanbase while dropping some nuggets of knowledge on their viewers.

You’d think that publicly broadcasting your crimes would leave a trail of breadcrumbs as well. And that’s just what John C. Reilly is hoping for in the newly released trailer from Amazon MGM.

How to Rob a Bank

The official synopsis reads,
“In HOW TO ROB A BANK, a crew of social media-savvy bank robbers broadcasts their daring heists, unaware that their growing viral fame has put them in the crosshairs of a veteran FBI agent and a brilliant software engineer. Despite the unlikely duo closing in, the crime ring pushes past their limits, putting everything on the line for their beliefs – and their most ambitious heist yet.”

The movie stars Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz, Anna Sawai, Rhenzy Feliz, Christian Slater as Walton, with Pete Davidson and John C. Reilly. David Leitch, who recently helmed Bullet Train and The Fall Guy, directs the film from a script written by Mark Bianculli. Bianculli also executive produces the movie with Ben Ormand. The producers on board include Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody, Allan Mandelbaum, Kelly McCormick and David Leitch.

David Leitch’s busy schedule

Last year, it was reported that David Leitch is directing many projects in various production states, including Undying LoveHot Air and Button ManUndying Love is a romantic action drama about an ex-soldier who falls for a vampire. However, in order to be with her, he must take on her creator, who is protected by an army of monsters in the Hong Kong underworld—meanwhile, Hot Air stars Andrew Garfield as Richard Branson. The story revolves around a famous British entrepreneur. Finally, Leitch’s Button Man series focuses on former elite soldier Harry Exton, who joins a deadly underground game pitting elite killers against each other. Winners claim opponents’ severed fingers or kill them for massive payouts, luring those with no other use for their lethal skills.
