Hey, Yo
The I Play Rocky trailer has finally been released. Most of the comments for the trailer on the main Amazon MGM YouTube are mostly saying how people were iffy about the idea at first, but the trailer looks better than they expected. A lot of that can be pinpointed on Anthony Ippolito’s portrayal of the instantly recognizable Sylvester Stallone. Praise was thrown towards Ippolito for his embodiment of the star, and people also gave flowers to Stephan James for his quick but impressive depiction of Carl Weathers in the trailer. Many are wondering what reactions will be like from those who are portrayed in the movie, since it’s been done without their participation. And a reaction has finally come from…you guessed it, Frank Stallone! (Norm MacDonald reference for those who were curious)
Frank Stallone responds
Frank Stallone has worked with his brother on a number of his films. He’s been featured in the Rocky movies many times and while Sly has not given his blessing for the film, he also has not criticized its production. He is said to be waiting for the finished product before judging. And that looks to be the same sentiment that Frank Stallone is expressing. However, he does show his admiration for Ippolito’s performance. On his Instagram, Frank posts, “Since the trailer of I Play Rocky was released, I’ve been getting bombarded with questions and my opinion. At first when I heard about this film I was overprotective of the legacy of my brother and the film. I think the actor portraying my brother is fantastic. But it would be disingenuous of me to make any opinion without yet seeing the film. It’s somewhat of an honor 50 yrs after its release that someone would want to document the history of my brother and the much loved character of Rocky. So think we should all sit back and wait till it’s released to make any judgement. Who knows we hopefully may all be pleasantly surprised!”

Stallone’s Memoir
Ironically, Sylvester Stallone is about to release a memoir that will no doubt go into great detail about the very same story that is told in I Play Rocky. The timing is so impeccable that you wonder why he and the production didn’t work out a collaboration. Stallone also recently took to his social media to promote The Steps, which is a very personal reflection of his journey. The Steps, is due out in September and you can take a look at his announcement of it below.
Meanwhile, I Play Rocky steps into the ring on November 13.
