This coming Thursday, Epic Games will launch this year’s Fortnitemares event, complete with new crossovers and collabs for all you Fortnite players out there! During this annual celebration of all things spooky, the money-printing battle royale transforms into a festival of frights, with many characters and Easter eggs from beloved horror properties making their way into the game. This year, Epic Games is pulling all the seeds out of the Jack-O-Lantern for an unforgettable lineup of cinematic icons, Something Awful legends, animatronic animals, and more!
A Festival of Frights Drops Into Fortnite
Epic revealed the key art for this year’s Fortnitemares event on Monday, September 28, alongside a lineup of new skins for players to purchase using the battle royale’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, including: Five Nights at Freddy’s, Beetlejuice, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Slender Man, The Purge, and Black Clover. It’s worth noting that additional skins could drop throughout the event. For example, I’ve seen mock-ups of Chucky from Child’s Play, but given how easy it is to fake a character design using AI, I would assume all bets are off until skins officially appear in the game.
Creepy Originals and Twisted Takes
In addition to this year’s big-ticket collabs, Fortnitemares will feature original skins inspired by known properties, like a creepy, doll-like version of Alice from Alice in Wonderland, a patchwork doll that looks like she shops exclusively at Hot Topic, a red-eyed geisha, and a sinister-looking robot that’s a cross between Venom and Tron. Epic always delivers on these original, creepy concepts, making them every bit as alluring as the licensed juggernauts.
Map Changes, V-Bucks, and Dream Demons
While I’ve not spent too much time in Fortnite’s latest video game-themed season, I’m more than ready to spend a portion of my next paycheck on Fortnitemares skins. I always look forward to this event, especially the clever ways in which Epic alters the map to include new horror-themed locations. I’ve clocked almost 800 hours in Fortnite, so I know a great seasonal update when I see one. I can’t wait to add Freddy Krueger specifically to my collection, especially since it looks like they got the rights to the classic Robert Englund version rather than Jackie Earle Haley’s reimagining of the character.
