Issa Rae and Jordan Peele team up for female identity horror movie Sinkhole

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Issa Rae – creator and star of INSECURE – has teamed up with horror maestro Jordan Peele (GET OUT, US) to develop a film based on Leyna Krow’s short story SINKHOLE, "a thought-provoking genre movie that engages with questions of female perfection and identity." Here's the official synopsis:

[The story] is about a young family that moves into its dream home despite the gaping sinkhole in the backyard. The mysterious sinkhole manages to fix broken and destroyed things. However, the story asks, what if that thing is a person?

Rae and Peele are working with Universal, who bought out the rights to the short story against ten other studios vying for it. It is assumed that Rae will star in the project herself.

Meanwhile, no official release or start date as of yet (which makes sense), but we’ll keep you posted!

Honestly, I’m excited for this project, as I love Peele’s horror output (I can’t wait for LOVECRAFT COUNTRY!) and Rae’s INSECURE is delightful. Also the idea itself has a very Lynchian/Junji Ito vibe that I like. Hopefully it all comes together!
