A24 releases trailer for fantasy adventure The Green Knight

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Writer/director David Lowery and production/distribution company A24 worked together on Lowery's 2017 film A GHOST STORY, and their second collaboration is going to be something very different from their first. Titled THE GREEN KNIGHT, this one is "an epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend".

Starring Dev Patel, Joel Edgerton, Barry Keoghan, Ralph Ineson, and Alicia Vikander, with Sean Harris as King Arthur, THE GREEN KNIGHT has the following synopsis:

Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

The film is scheduled to reach theatres on May 29th, and in anticipation of the release a trailer has arrived online. You can see that embedded above.

I'm mainly familiar with Lowery from his low-key, Texas-set 2013 film AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS, so I'm interested in experiencing a Lowery sword and sorcery movie. This isn't something I expected to see him do… but he did make the live action PETE'S DRAGON a while back, so clearly I have been underestimating his range.
