Amazon Studios to produce Head of State starring Idris Elba and John Cena

Idris Elba, John Cena, The Suicide Squad, Head of State

Amazon Studios has scooped up the rights for Head of State, an upcoming action film project that pairs Idris Elba with John Cena. In what we know so far, both actors are in the final stages of negotiating for a six-figure sum for their participation. Meanwhile, the project's writer, Harrison Query, is eyeing a seven-figure deal for his scripting efforts.

According to Deadline, plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, though it's been said that Head of State will be a high-octane ’90s style two-hander akin to AIR FORCE ONE meets FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS AND SHAW. Essentially, this is an odd couple setup with pulse-pounding shenanigans aplenty that is likely to play well with fans of shit blowing up on the big screen. Word has it that the project came together after The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran witnessed the duo's obvious chemistry while films James Gunn's upcoming antihero film. After being like, yeah, I want more of that, Safran looked to Query to help craft a project that the pair could tackle together. By the way, The Safran Company’s Peter Safran and John Rickard will serve as producers for Head of State.

Air Force One meets Hobbs & Shaw, eh? I could be down for that. I mean, I'm game for anything that has Elba attached to star, and watching Cena's star continues to rise has also been a lot of fun. Obviously, both actors are no strangers to participating in intense situations in front of the camera, so in a way, their reunion for another action vehicle feels apt as well as something that fans of either will anticipate. Let's do this!
