And the remake train keeps on rollin'….

Today at the Toronto International Film Festival it was revealed that David Cronenberg’s first film, the 1975 horror movie SHIVERS (aka THEY CAME FROM WITHIN), is getting a remake from producers Jeff Sackman and Michael Baker.

Variety has shared that the remake of SHIVERS will be directed by Danish filmmaker Rie Rasmussen (HUMAN ZOO) from a screenplay written by Ian Driscoll. Sackman will produce via TAJJ Media and Baker will produce his Bunk 11 Pictures with the film’s original executive producer, Andre Link, returning in that role.

Producers plan to update SHIVERS in which…

…a genetically-engineered strain of parasites that turn people into violent, compulsive sex-addicts is released into a self-contained luxury apartment complex — with the resident doctor trying to find a cure before the infected inhabitants spread the parasites.

According to a press release, the upcoming remake will be updated for today’s social and sexual realities. The release goes on to share…

In a post-HIV world, where people interact through screens rather than skin, the parasite breaks down those digital barriers. This is a world that is both more liberated than that of 1975, and more fearful and uptight.

The original film was written and directed by Cronenberg and produced by Ivan Reitman with Link and John Dunning as executive producers.
