Army of Darkness: Forever comic book series is a direct sequel to the film

Dynamite Entertainment’s upcoming comic book series Army of Darkness: Forever is a direct sequel to Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness

Dynamite Entertainment has released a ton of Army of Darkness comic books over the years, but with the upcoming series Army of Darkess: Forever they’re going back to the source: this comic book is a direct sequel to director Sam Raimi’s 1993 film (watch it HERE)! And this sequel comes with a bonus in that it continues on from both endings of the film.

While the theatrical cut of Army of Darkness found our time traveling hero Ash back in his own time, working at S-Mart (and fighting a Deadite in the aisles), the director’s cut of the film ends with Ash being dropped into a post-apocalyptic future.

Here’s the information on Army of Darkness: Forever #1: The story picks up immediately after the events of the beloved film, jumping between three fun timelines. The Techno Army of Darkness of 2093, the S-Mart aisles of 1993, and the middle ages chaos of Castle Kandar, all three get the spotlight in this series. Superstar creator Tony Fleecs, from the best-selling series Stray Dogs and contributions to other franchises like My Little Pony, Gargoyles, returns to the franchise following covers for Army of Darkness vs. Reanimator: Necronomicon Rising. He’s setting out to give fans of Ash Williams the ultimate story they’ve always wanted!

Tony Fleecs is writing the series while Justin Greenwood (Stumptown) provides the artwork. Fleecs is also teaming up with the likes of Francesco Mattina, Arthur Suydam, and Nick Dragotta to create the issue covers.

Fleecs had this to say about the two endings of Army of Darkness: “(The director’s cut ending is) one of the great, all-time alternate takes. Instead of Ash ending up back in 1990s Michigan, fighting deadites at S-Mart, he wakes up 100 years after the end of the world in 2093. I remember the first time I saw it on DVD, my mind just exploding at the possibilities. Ash vs. the post-apocalypse?! But then the theatrical ending has that iconic action scene and last line: ‘Hail to the King, baby.’ So, you don’t want to lose that either.

Written by Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi, Army of Darkness has the following synopsis:

Ash is transported back to medieval days, where he is captured by the dreaded Lord Arthur. Aided by the deadly chainsaw that has become his only friend, Ash is sent on a perilous mission to recover the Book of the Dead, a powerful tome that gives its owner the power to summon an army of ghouls.

The film stars Embeth Davidtz, Marcus Gilbert, Ian Abercrombie, Richard Grove, Ted Raimi, Bridget Fonda, Timothy Patrick Quill, Michael Earl Reid, Patricia Tallman, Bill Moseley, and of course Bruce Campbell as heroic-but-dim horror icon Ash Williams.

Army of Darkness: Forever #1 is expected to reach store shelves in October. Will you be collecting this comic book series? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
