Army of the Dead: Omari Hardwick on his character’s future (SPOILERS)

Recently, we had the chance to sit down and talk with Omari Hardwick from Army of the Dead, and for those of you that have seen the movie, he had some interesting insight into his character’s fate – and future in the franchise. Now, it goes without saying that if you haven’t seen the movie yet, you should probably stop reading right here as we’re about to go into some major spoilers. So PLEASE STOP IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN IT! Here’s a spoiler free interview we did a few weeks ago, with spoilers only starting after the break.

Still with me? Ok. So if you recall, at the end of the film Hardwick’s Vanderohe seemingly survived a nuke being dropped on Las Vegas, PLUS the fallout. He had loads of cash on him, and rented a private plane only to quickly fall ill. Vanderohe, of course, was bitten and seems on the verge on becoming undead. Here’s what Hardwick had to when I asked him if we'd see him again:

“I think so, I definitely know that Zack is about the full circle. He can’t start a story and not go full circle with what that story, smells, feels  and looks like.” To me, this sounds like if there's gonna be a sequel, Hardwick's gonna be a big part. Maybe Vanderohe will become the next Alpha, which, as you'll recall, are the intelligent zombies that control the rest.

He elaborated on the matter by saying that as much he’s eager to see what comes next for the character, he’d also like to circle back to the character’s past, and show why when we first see him he’s doing therapeutic work with eighty year old women in the pool. “What I would love to see is Vanderohe’s own, not Army of Thieves, but perhaps Army of Grieves, the grievance of what it feels like for a soldier to now not only grieve his mates who died, but also a piece of him that’s been left over in that world. As much as it would be cool to see him become what he becomes now following Army of the Dead, I would like to pre-emptively see what this guy was and what his life looked like.”

The movie, which has been kicking ass on the Netflix top 10 for a few weeks now, is getting a prequel with Army of Thieves, but Hardwick also confirmed that he'll be part of the anime series, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which will dig into the pasts hinted at during the film's incredible opening credit montage.

Now that the movie's out, are you psyched for more Army of the Dead?
