When MAN OF STEEL 2 begins shooting in Detroit early next year it will bring $131 million to the state of Michigan and mark another cityscape standing in for Metropolis and Gotham City. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and the rest of the cast will film for three months early in 2014 in Detroit for what will amount to the majority of the shooting of the MAN OF STEEL sequel.

The still untitled BATMAN/SUPERMAN movie has already raised eyebrows with the casting of Affleck and the rumors of Bryan Cranston joining as villain Lex Luthor. It remains to be seen what the story will be exactly as writer David Goyer is undoubtedly rushing to finish the script in time.

In using Detroit as the setting for the sequel, director Zack Snyder had this to say:

“Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie.”.

While we may not know the story yet, this is not the first attempt at a BATMAN/SUPERMAN film. In fact, back in 2002 Andrew Kevin Walker (SEVEN, THE GAME) wrote a script for the film then titled ASYLUM. You can read the screenplay online now via the embed below. I doubt any of it will be recycled for the Snyder film, but it is always cool to look back at what could have been.

MAN OF STEEL 2 aka BATMAN VS SUPERMAN aka SUPERMAN VS BATMAN opens on July 17, 2015.
