Black Adam: Dwayne Johnson feels there’s an opportunity for a DC and Marvel crossover

When having a shared universe, one of the biggest payoffs is having characters of their own intellectual property cross over into another character’s intellectual property. With a big enough roster, it can culminate in an event like Avengers: Endgame. So, what’s an even bigger step than that? The comic world has had rival businesses, Marvel and DC, cooperate in crossing over their superheroes in several issues. Dwayne Johnson thinks it could happen in the movie world as well.

Black Adam has recently had its premiere [first reactions here] in a giant Time Square takeover, and Variety was there to ask Johnson how such a crossover could be possible. Johnson explains,

“Well, I’m always optimistic. I’d like to think that we would see that. My philosophy is anything can get done. Let’s start with the end goal. And if the end goal is to have some sort of crossover that can be compelling, smart, cool for the fans. Let’s get a temperature gauge if they’d like to see something like that. And then if they do, then let’s create it. I operate my businesses like that. I truly believe that anything can happen. Anything can happen with the right people and place, and the right leadership, having the right conversations.”

Dwayne Johnson seems to flex his business muscles as often as his real ones as he becomes a branding machine with his own production company, his own tequila, his own energy drink, and even his own football league. After a few attempts to secure their own Kevin Feige, Warner Bros is still looking for someone to oversee the developments of their DC Extended Universe projects. Perhaps Johnson could step up to the plate?

The Black Adam star is as interested in that position as he is in being President. “The best position that I could be for DC is one as an advisor, where I can help. I love DC. It’s in my blood. In the spirit of growing up with the DC Universe. I’m here to help in any way I can, including looking for and finding that right leader or leaders.”

Black Adam will summon himself on movie screens this October 21.
