Brad Bird‘s TOMORROWLAND is one of the most mysterious and anticipated movies in quite a long time. Disney has huge expectations for the film that focuses on Walt Disney, Disneyland, and specifically the Tomorrowland section of the park. For a while now we have been teased with glimpses of a mysterious box that inspired screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen. Aside from the casting of George Clooney, Britt Robertson, and Hugh Laurie, we know little of the project.

A new website has appeared online called The Optimist that carries with it the follow message:

Walter Elias Disney was an optimist who believed in creating a living blueprint for the future. He and his Imagineers – those creative and skilled professional wizards who combine imagination and engineering – made fantasy into reality and built the magic of the Disney Theme Parks. But, what if that was just the beginning?

Amelia, a young filmmaker, has stumbled upon a revolutionary secret…and she needs your help. Collaborate with other curious individuals around the globe to solve a mystery that traverses the web, Disneyland® Park, and beyond before culminating at the D23 Expo.

The website redirects to a blog maintained by Amelia as she digs through her grandfather Carlos’ belongings after his death. I don’t think it would be a stretch to think that Amelia may be Britt Robertson’s character and Carlos would be George Clooney. There are a few links to other websites that are a part of the viral game, including one with the map below.

Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird both know very well about these alternate reality games from their interactions with J.J. Abrams. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get some big news about this project in the weeks leading up to the D23 Expo on August 9-11th.

TOMORROWLAND opens in theaters on December 19, 2014.
