Although it had been speculated that the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again would be the final installment of the Marvel series, fans were still surprised when the studio made it official. However, unlike the last time the Man Without Fear got the axe (after three seasons on Netflix), Charlie Cox knew ahead of time that Daredevil: Born Again would be done after three seasons.

“[There was] a little bit more planning and emotional support. We knew about it [this time],” Cox told GamesRadar+ at New York Comic-Con. “We had a good sense [it was going to be canceled].“

However, fans will have a treat to look forward to as the final season will serve as a Defenders reunion. Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), and Mike Colter (Luke Cage) will be back for the final season.

Farewell, Daredevil: Born Again

The third season wrapped shooting several months ago and is in the midst of post-production. However, Dario Scardapane, who took over the show during its creative overhaul, has “quietly parted ways” with Marvel. His contract was up and was not renewed, but it’s odd for the showrunner to exit the series while it’s still in post-production. It’s not clear who will see it over the finish line.

Viewership for the second season was down considerably, which likely played a part in the decision to end the series. According to data for the first five episodes of each season from Luminate, “Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has accumulated 4,515,000 season views, 10,867,000 hours watched, and 652,000,000 minutes watched. Season 1, tracked across the same five-week window, generated 8,357,000 season views, 24,000,000 hours watched, and 1,440,004,000 minutes watched. That represents a decline of approximately 46% in total views and over 54% in total hours watched.“

What We Thought of The Last Season

Our own Alex Maidy was a big fan, saying the second season of Daredevil: Born Again might be one of the best seasons of television in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Better than the first season and on par with the Netflix series’ strongest elements, Daredevil: Born Again is easily one of the most enjoyable mature superhero series ever, earning a spot alongsideThe Penguin,” he wrote. “Embracing what makes Daredevil one of the most underrated Marvel Comics characters and turning it into thrilling television, Born Again‘s second season blends timely social commentary, top-notch action, and memorable characters into a fantastic run of television. I cannot wait to see where this series goes next and if the surprises revealed this season portend some big news coming soon from the MCU.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

The third and final season of Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ in March 2027.
