Earlier this year, Paramount Pictures teamed with producer Brian Robbins to launch a new production division called Paramount Players, which is meant to "focus, in distinctive ways, on contemporary talent and properties for young audiences". It has since been announced that the first Paramount Players project will be a psychological horror movie called ELI.
Ciarán Foy (CITADEL, SINISTER 2) is attached to direct the film, working from a screenplay by CHEAP THRILLS writer David Chirchirillo that was featured on the 2015 Black List. THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE writing duo Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing recently revised the script.
The story follows
a young boy undergoing treatment for a rare disease at a secluded clinic, which becomes a haunted prison with no way out.
Charlie Shotwell will be playing the title character.
Produced by Trevor Macy and John Zaozirny, with Matt Alvarez serving as executive producer and Melinda Nishioka and David O'Leary co-producing, ELI is expected to start filming soon for a January 4, 2019 release.
From the name and description, I wasn't expecting Paramount Players to be producing interesting horror films, but if that's what they're going to do I'm all for it.
