Cobra Kai continues to be a huge hit for Netflix, and within its first three days of release on the streamer, the series has logged an impressive amount of viewing hours and it knocked The Witcher season 2 to second place in the progress.

According to the weekly Top 10 update from Netflix, Cobra Kai season 4 registered 120 million hours viewed since it made its debut on New Year’s Day. This accounts for three days worth of viewing and this allowed the Karate Kid sequel series to knock season two of The Witcher down to second place. The showing continues strong viewership for Cobra Kai as its third season, which debuted around the same time last year, logged 2.1 billion minutes viewed for the week of January 4-10th, 2021, per Nielsen ratings. The key difference this year is that Netflix now supplies its own viewership numbers and they track via hours viewed rather than minutes.

Samba TV also reports that 1 million U.S. households watched the Season 4 premiere of Cobra Kai during its New Year’s Eve release and first-weekend streaming. 682,000 U.S. households also watched the episode 10 finale during that same period. Samba TV doesn’t give us the full story but it does show that what the third-party service tracked is that there was an immediate rush from fans to catch season 4.

Cobra Kai season four is also a big hit with critics, registering a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. For a series in its fourth season, it doesn’t show signs of losing momentum as it continues to be a blend of fresh new stories and solid fan service. It’s amazing how this series has gotten this formula right and only continues to get better.

Per Netflix, “Season 4 finds the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang dojos joining forces to take down Cobra Kai at the All Valley Under 18 Karate Tournament… and whoever loses must hang up their gi. As Samantha and Miguel try to maintain the dojo alliance and Robby goes all in at Cobra Kai, the fate of the Valley has never been more precarious. What tricks does Kreese have up his sleeve? Can Daniel and Johnny bury their decades-long hatchet to defeat Kreese? Or will Cobra Kai become the face of karate in the valley?”

Cobra Kai takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, continuing the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka). The third season found everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance. The series also stars Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Peyton List, Thomas Ian Griffith, Dallas Dupree Young, Oona O’Brien, Griffin Santopietro, and Martin Kove.
