We’ve got a lot of comic-book movies ahead of us. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Adam, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods, but what about our beloved Super-Pets? Warner Bros. has us covered with the latest trailer for DC League of Super-Pets.
The animated action-adventure film stars Dwayne Johnson as the voice of Krypto the Super-Dog, the inseparable best friend of Superman. The pair share the same powers and fight crime in Metropolis side-by-side, but when Superman and the rest of the Justice League are kidnapped, Krypto must convince a rag-tag shelter pack to master their newfound powers and help him rescue the Super Heroes.
In addition to Dwayne Johnson, DC League of Super-Pets also features the voices of Kevin Hart as Ace the hound, Vanessa Bayer as PB the potbellied pig, Diego Luna as Chip the squirrel, and Natasha Lyonne as Merton the turtle. Kate McKinnon, Marc Maron, Thomas Middleditch, and Ben Schwartz also lend their voices to the film, with Jack Krasinski as Superman and Keanu Reeves as Batman. The John Wick star is an inspired choice to voice Batman, and his final line is easily the best of the new DC League of Super-Pets trailer.
Writer/director Jared Stern has said that the relationship between Krypto and Ace is the heart of the movie. “It’s a buddy story about those two guys,” Stern said. “[Krypto] flies above the streets, Ace is from the streets. He’s a shelter pet and so he knows a little bit more about being a regular dog. Their dynamic is figuring that out and butting heads in that way.” DC League of Super-Pets will debut in theaters on July 29, 2022.
