DiCaprio/Scorsese to team-up once again in The Devil in the White City

When something works, it works, and the partnership between Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese is definitely one which works. The pair have brought us GANGS OF NEW YORK, THE AVIATOR, THE DEPARTED, SHUTTER ISLAND, and THE WOLF OF WALL STREET and now Deadline reports that a sixth collaboration is in the works as well.

After a period of aggressive bidding, Paramount has snagged the rights to the Erik Larson novel "The Devil In The White City: Murder, Magic And Madness At The Fair That Changed America." Billy Ray (CAPTAIN PHILLIPS) will write the script and it's expected that Leonardo DiCaprio will star and that Martin Scorsese will direct the film. Leonardo would play Dr. H.H. Holmes, one of America's first notable serial killers. He's estimated to have murdered somewhere between 27-200 people after luring many of them to his World's Fair Hotel which was filled with a variety of diabolical traps including a gas chamber, crematorium, dissecting table, and an assortment of torture equipment.

DiCaprio has wanted to tackle this project for a long time, but it was the latest draft from Billy Ray that got those involved excited enough to get the ball rolling. Per the Amazon book synopsis, "The Devil in the White City" will "intertwine the true tale of the 1893 World's Fair and the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death." The film will feature two main characters, one will be the producer/architect of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, and the other will be the man who works for him, Dr. H.H. Holmes. Leonardo DiCaprio has certainly played unpleasant characters in the past but Dr. H.H. Holmes could have the potential to top them all.
