If you’re looking for some WTF news today, I have a nice little slice for you right here.  It looks like director Ron Howard has signed on to film the Jay-Z Budweiser Made in America music festival that is taking place September 1-2 in Philadelphia.  The festival will feature such artists as Pearl Jam, Run-DMC, Drake, Skrillex, Rick Ross, Miike Snow, Odd Future, Chris Cornell, and Janelle Monae.

Howard says that the film isn’t a concert film, but rather “a reflection of the fabric of what it means to be Made in America — what the festival represents, why Jay is doing it and how he relates to each artist.”

Naturally, the pic is being produced by Brian Grazer, who says “The film is going to be born through Jay-Z’s perspective, how he puts the event together and creates this musical event that defies all genres.  We will home in on the meaning of the festival and how Jay-Z has become a voice and icon for this generation.”

So, it’s about Jay-Z being famous and making lots of money?  Wow.  Sign me up. I actually like some of Jay-Z’s music and the line-up for the festival is pretty damn good, but if he’s the voice of this generation, then I guess Mike Judge is a prophet, because we are headed to IDIOCRACY in a hurry.

The festival takes place this weekend, September 1-2, 2012 in Philadelphia, PA.  If you want to shoot for a cameo, tickets are still available via ticketmaster, although it might be your most expensive cameo ever.

Pic is being eyed for a 2013 release.
