Elisabeth Moss goes positively mad in a twisted trailer for Shirley

After delivering a hell of a nuanced performance as Cecilia Kass for director Leigh Whannell's THE INVISIBLE MAN, Elisabeth Moss is back to bestow her acting gifts on the horror genre once more with SHIRLEY, a biographical thriller that looks about as twisted as the author upon which the film is based.

Directed by Josephine Decker (MOSIAC) and written by Sarah Gubbins (BETTER THINGS), the upcoming drama is based on the novel of the same name by Susan Scarf Merrell.

The official synopsis for SHIRLEY reads as follows:

Renowned horror writer Shirley Jackson [Moss] is on the precipice of writing her masterpiece when the arrival of newlyweds upends her meticulous routine and heightens tensions in her already tempestuous relationship with her philandering husband. The middle-aged couple, prone to ruthless barbs and copious afternoon cocktails, begins to toy mercilessly with the naïve young couple at their door.

Previously the film had received a tremendous amount of praise from Sundance, with some attendees celebrating Moss' hypnotic and sinister performance as Jackson for a film that terrifies just as much as it stands to tantilize audiences. Joining Moss for SHIRLEY are Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young and Logan Lerman.
