Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in February, we let you guys know that director Adam Robitel's ESCAPE ROOM 2 would be hitting a theater near you on April 17, 2020. But today it seems that Sony has pushed the film back 4 months to an August release date. No reason has been offered for the move at this time. The update comes to us from ERCboxoffice over on Twitter who writes:

Under construction. Sony's ESCAPE ROOM 2 has been pushed back 4 months–unlocks Aug 14, 2020 instead of April 17.

ESCAPE ROOM debuted back in January and doubled it's reported $9 million budget opening weekend performing well ahead of industry expectations. In fact, opening weekend audiences gave the film a "B" CinemaScore. Not bad! I haven't had the chance to see the film yet, but our own Jimmy O gave the film a 7/10 rating saying the movie "may not reinvent the wheel or shock audiences with any major revelation, but it certainly manages to entertain." Sounds good to me!

The original film followed

An intriguing invitation bring six strangers together. Initially, they think they have gathered for a highly immersive escape room, but they soon make the sickening discovery that they are pawns in a sadistic game of life and death. Together, they move from one terrifying scenario to the next as they find clues and solve puzzles. But the players soon learn that exposing their darkest secrets may hold the key to survive.

The cast included Logan Miller, Deborah Ann Woll, Taylor Russell, Tyler Labine, Jay Ellis, and Nik Dodani. Neal H. Moritz (I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, URBAN LEGEND) and Ori Marmur (JACK THE GIANT SLAYER, BATTLE LOS ANGELES) produce the film. Did you go see ESCAPE ROOM in theaters earlier this year? What did you think? Hit us up and let us know below! ESCAPE ROOM is now available digitally and on Blu-ray and DVD. ESCAPE ROOM 2 will now be hitting a theater near you on August 24, 2020.
