A trailer has arrived online for writer/director Ivan Sen’s futuristic thriller Expired, which Lionsgate is planning to give a theatrical and VOD release on March 18th. Starring Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Hugo Weaving (the Matrix franchise), and Jillian Nguyen (True History of the Kelly Gang), the film tells the story of

a hitman who meets a mysterious woman and comes down with a deadly illness.

That very short synopsis and the scenes showcased in the trailer are all Lionsgate is willing to let us know about Expired at this point… so this is definitely a case where you have to set your expectation levels based almost entirely on what the trailer has to show us.

Expired is the sixth feature film for Sen, whose previous films were the 2002 romantic drama Beneath Clouds, the 2009 sci-fi film Dreamland, the 2011 crime drama Toomelah, the 2013 crime film Mystery Road, and the 2016 thriller Goldstone. I have to admit that I haven’t seen any of those movies, so I can’t even use a familiarity with his past work to adjust my interest in his new movie. Some of them do sound interesting, though, so I might have to do some catching up on Ivan Sen movies soon.

Expired is Sen’s first time working with Jillian Nguyen, but he previously worked with both Ryan Kwanten and Hugo Weaving on Mystery Road. Kwanten is also known for his work on Creepshow, Them, Sacred Lies, The Oath, Knights of Badassdom, Dead Silence, Summerland, and Home and Away. Weaving has almost 100 credits to his name and has been in some massive hits outside the Matrix movies, including Lord of the Rings films and Captain America: The First Avenger. Nguyen’s credits also include Barons and Hungry Ghosts.

Have you seen any of Sen’s previous movies? Are you looking forward to Expired? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
