I’m a little bit pissed at myself for not being aware of a certain 1978 horror film called EYES OF LAURA MARS. It was directed by Irvin Kershner, who also helmed a certain small flick called THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, and written by a certain horror pioneer by the name of John Carpenter. Shit, why haven’t I heard more about LAURA MARS?!
Well, that may soon change for all of us as director, Chris Fisher (S. DARKO), just announced at FANGO that he is remaking the film, saying that a first draft is already complete and shooting is expected to begin this fall. In regards to casting, Fisher was hoping to score Briana Evigan (one of his S. DARKO stars, below) as long as she would be cool with doing nudity. I know that all of us here at AITH are very cool with Ms. Evigan doing nudity, but for some reason, I doubt that she is.
I believe the role Fisher wants for Briana is the lead, played originally by Faye Dunaway. The plot for LAURA MARS goes like this: Laura Mars is a very successful high-end fashion and advertising photographer. Detective John Neville notes striking similarities between her art photos and those of actual crime scenes. Although suspicious of her, he soon realizes that she hasn’t been involved in any of the crimes but can see what is happening through the eyes of the killer. After her friends and some of her models are killed, she joins forces with Neville to identify the killer before she too becomes a victim.
Sounds pretty cool to me. I think I’ll go Netflix the original. More on the remake as we hear it.
