F. Gary Gray in talks to helm the Men in Black spinoff

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Be sure to polish up your Ray Bans and bring your sharpest, blackest suit to the cleaners, because Sony and Amblin Entertainment's MEN IN BLACK reboot is picking up steam.

It's been announced that FRIDAY and SET IT OFF director F. Gary Gray in the top choice to direct a film that will hopefully reinvigorate the MEN IN BLACK franchise. With a script by IRON MAN scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, the STRAIGHT OUT OF COMPTON helmer will attempt to breathe new life into the now-defunct franchise about a top-secret organization that specializes in keeping the peace between the planet Earth and its many alien visitors.

All three chapters of the original MEN IN BLACK series were directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, and starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as a pair of unlikely partners tasked with upholding interplanetary peace between an innumerable amount of beings from outerspace. It's also worth noting that, if all things come to pass, F. Gary Gray's version of MIB won't be the first attempt at re-introducing the franchise, after Sony's failed play at pairing the black-suited duo with 21 JUMP STREET cast members Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill. Yeah, remember that hot mess of an idea?

Gray's MEN IN BLACK will keep the franchise's familiar premise, though neither Smith or Jones are expected to return to their roles as Agents Jay and Kay, respectively.

What would you like to see from a MEN IN BLACK reboot? Are you game to revisit the franchise upon its return, or would you rather have someone shine a neurolizer in your eyes, in the hope that you'll forget that this idea even exists? Let us know in the comments section below.
