Since Fox found a bit of success with AVATAR, they’re anxious to head back into the cosmos with more sci-fi projects.
The LA Times says that Fox-based producer John Davis (I, ROBOT) has secured the rights to author Ray Bradbury’s “The Martian Chronicles”, the 1950 collection of short stories about the colonization of the Red Planet and the colonists’ clashes with the native Martians. The material was previously adapted into a 1980 TV miniseries with Rock Hudson.
Meanwhile, Heat Vision says Fox wants to do what the G.I. JOE haters wish they could: launch Channing Tatum off-planet. Tatum is attached to an original sci-fi script called ION, about “a man who travels to different Earths and dimensions in order to find his reincarnated lover.” AVATAR is, unsurprisingly, being used as a point of comparison.
ION has another edge: the involvement of Ridley and Tony Scott. Their production company Scott Free is also pushing the project.
