Fox’s trailer for their Prodigal Son TV series has got those Hannibal vibes

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Fox has let a trailer for the crime series PRODIGAL SON out of its cell, and I've got to say, I'm getting some hardcore HANNIBAL vibes from this one. The show follows criminal psychologist Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne) as he works alongside the NYPD to solve a series of horrendous crimes. Though he's regarded as one of the best investigators in the business, Malcolm's talents come at a lofty cost. I say this because part of the reason he's so in sync with methodical killers is because his own father, Martin Whitly (Michael Sheen), has enjoyed his own ghastly career as a serial killer. As if this isn't enough to push Malcolm over the edge, he's also forced to contend with his mother's (Bellamy Young) manipulative ways as well as his sister's (Halston Sage) constent hounding for her brother to lead a more normal life.

Despite looking like HANNIBAL's brother, twice removed, PRODIGAL SON looks like it could be a fine addition to procedural crime dramas across the grand stage that is televised entertainment. From what I can gather thanks to the above trailer, the show looks to be stylish, sinister, and perhaps even a bit psychotic. Sheen is definitely a bit draw, as is the SEVEN-style killings and psychological warfare waged between father and son.

Fox has set a premiere of September 23 for the series, which has RIVERDALE's Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter executive producing.
