Frank Darabont has directed some great movies including THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION and THE GREEN MILE. He more recently helped produce The Walking Dead until he was fired. He doesn't just say yes to anything obviously; so why he would want to lend his name to the sequel for SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN is beyond me. He beat out previous frontrunners Gavin O'Connor (WARRIOR) and Andy Muschietti (MAMA) for the gig after the studio and producer Joe Roth were said to be happy with his take for the sequel.
Kristen Stewart is not expected to return but a cameo is not being ruled out the report threatens. The movie is expect to emphasize Chris Hemsworth‘s role as the titular Huntsman; thank THE AVENGERS for that push. The only reward from watching SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN was Charlize Theron’s great performance. The odd pacing and Stewarts out of place performance made this movie an endurance test that’s for sure. The movie managed to gross almost $400 million worldwide so the follow-up was inevitable.
SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN 2 is slated for a 2016 release.
