I’ll admit right away that this was entirely an excuse to talk about the movie FURY. The real news here will be one sentence likely and not change the course of your day whatsoever. For me though, David Ayer’s (END OF WATCH) World War II tank drama looks amazing and I will take advantage of any opportunity to share that message. So the news is Sony Pictures has moved FURY nearly a month from its original release date of November 14th to October 17th 2014.
Here’s the synopsis:
Set in April 1945, as the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, Fury features a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and outgunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
What’s nice about the date change is that it could be a move to get recognized and be remembered come awards season with the help of a longer campaign. The trailer (watch it below) left me thinking it was definitely going to be an awards potential movie; the cast, the direction, and the all-around bleak tone is a winning formula if there ever was one. This is definitely in my top 5 must see movies this fall.
FURY will now open opposite DRACULA UNTOLD, THE BOOK OF LIFE, the Nicholas Sparks snoozer THE BEST OF ME, a creepy Jake Gyllenhaal in NIGHTCRAWLER, and the limited opening of Alejandro Iñárritu’s fantastic looking BIRDMAN.
