Netflix has released a trailer for TAU, an upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Maika Monroe as Julia, a street-smart grifter who is kidnapped and held captive by an unhinged A.I. developer (Ed Skrein) and given the choice to either do what his futuristic smart house says…or die. That smart house is run by an advanced artificial intelligence known as Tau (Gary Oldman) who comes armed with a battalion of drones. Tau’s potential is only limited by his understanding of the world he exists in, but Tau is ready for more. Julia, showing resourcefulness and courage, must race against time to bridge the boundaries between man and machine, connect to Tau and win her freedom before she suffers the same fate as the previous subjects.
Netflix doesn't always impress with their original movies, but I'm willing to give TAU a shot based upon the involvement of Maika Monroe, who I quite enjoyed in both IT FOLLOWS and THE GUEST. Having Gary Oldman voice Tau (which probably took the actor all of an hour or two to record) is certainly a nice draw as well.
TAU will hit Netflix on June 29th.
