Godzilla vs. Kong: Winner will be crowned, says director

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Earlier today, composer Junkie XL revealed that the aircraft carrier fight scene in Godzilla vs. Kong between the two titans would go on for almost twenty minutes. Now, director Adam Wingard (You're Next) talked to IGN during the IGN Fan Fest panel about the upcoming film, saying that – unlike most "versus" films – there'll be an actual, definitive winner! (To be clear, that's not saying that one monster losing means they die, so the two could still work together to fight a common enemy afterward).

Anyway, here's the pertinent quote:

I just wanted this to feel like the real matchup. I wanted you to walk away from this. I wanted there to be no more arguments on the playground. This is the decider. You don't have to debate it anymore. You watch this film. That's Godzilla, that's King Kong. They're beating the shit out of each other, and one wins, and that's it.

He even talked about his issues with a similar recent "versus" film, Batman v Superman:

And so, going into this, I was thinking about that. And then I was thinking about Batman v Superman. And it's a similar thing, where you have Christian Bale as the definitive Batman in the Christopher Nolan trilogy, and that's who we knew him as. And obviously, Dark Knight Rises was his last picture. And so, when Batman v Superman comes around, that's the first time we see the re-casted Batman as Ben Affleck, and it's kind of in a different universe. It's in the Zack Snyder universe, which is very different than the Nolan thing. And this is just my opinion, but my problem with that movie is just on a fundamental aesthetic level almost, that it felt like a different Batman. So it didn't feel like the true legitimate Batman v Superman movie

And here's the official synopsis:

Fearsome monsters Godzilla and King Kong square off in an epic battle for the ages, while humanity looks to wipe out both of the creatures and take back the planet once and for all.

Godzilla vs. Kong will smash into theaters and HBO Max March 31st!

So what do you guys think? And who do you think will win? Either way, sound off below!
