Cate Blanchett winding down?
It was about a year ago, after having starred in the critically-acclaimed spy thriller Black Bag from Steven Soderbergh, that Cate Blanchett was dancing around the idea of retiring. “My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting,” Blanchett said in an issue of Radio Times. “[There are] a lot of things I want to do with my life.” The Lord of the Rings star explained that she’s “spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable.” She expounded, “When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see soundbites of things you’ve said, pulled out and italicized, they sound really loud. I’m not that person. I make more sense in motion – it’s been a long time to remotely get comfortable with the idea of being photographed.”
Better living with Martha Stewart
Not so fast, Ms. Blanchett. Before she goes throwing in the towel, the actress is still lining up some roles. According to Variety, Blanchett is now set to play Martha Stewart in a biopic titled Good Thing. The title is derived from a catchphrase that comes from Stewart, as she usually says, “It’s a good thing.” Janicza Bravo, who had written and directed the film Zola, will be helming the project. Not much detail has been revealed or announced on the film as of yet, except for the title, star and director.
When Variety wanted to hear a reaction about her biopic, Stewart herself told the publication that she’d only heard rumors that the project was being developed with Blanchett in the lead role.
Martha Stewart has notoriety for her successful business in lifestyle media, showing people everywhere how to make their homes cozy and sharing recipes for delicious meals with her many books and her successful Emmy-winning show Martha Stewart Living. Stewart would go on to become the first self-made female billionaire in the United States after her Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia conglomerate went public in 1999. Stewart would also face major legal trouble in 2004 after selling off her stake in ImClone Systems and avoiding a loss of about $45,000. She had been found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction and two counts of lying to federal investigators. She would serve five months in jail and two years of supervised release.
