Gritty Archie reboot Riverdale gets trailer with new footage

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

I'm curious as to why Hollywood always has to make a reinvention or deconstruction of Archie, instead of a straight adaptation. While RIVERDALE is a dark, brooding, and revisionist take on the material, it isn't the first one. There was another live-action TV special, this one about the iconic teens living in the midst of a midlife crisis called TO RIVERDALE AND BACK AGAIN:

Oof. At least the recent CW reboot with RIVERDALE in the title is reasonably stylish, if oppositional to the sugary tone of the original comics. Anyway, here's a new trailer with a lot of new footage:

Still not much to go on, but at least we get to hear some dialogue from the characters. Which they're, you know, fine. The actor's certainly don't seem terrible, even if the line readings are suitably melodramatic and portentous, as is befitting a CW teen drama. Honestly, if I wasn't already aware, I wouldn't even know this is based on Archie.

Anyway, I don't know about you guys, but I'm intrigued. The actor's honestly look the part, and the color palettes on the costumes are actually bright and saturated, even if everything else is lit dark and high contrast (which honestly creates interesting compositions). I was down on RIVERDALE at first, and it might still be terrible, but dammit if I'm not curious. It could actually be decent, but if not, at the very worst it will be a fun trainwreck to witness.

Either way, RIVERDALE will sugar, sugar on the CW January 26th, 2017 at 9pm ET on the CW.
