Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will feature the return of nearly all the characters we’ve come to love over the last two films, but there will be a few new additions as well. One of those new additions is Peacemaker star Chukwudi Iwuji, but exactly who he’s playing in Guardians 3 isn’t known.
As with most news surrounding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a lack of information certainly doesn’t stop fans from theorizing. A few characters who fans believe that Chukwudi Iwuji could be playing in Guardians of the Galaxy 3 include the High Evolutionary and the Silver Surfer, and that does fall in line with the actor’s latest tease. Iwuji spoke with THR to tease his mystery character.
Powerful. (Laughs.) Extremely powerful. Complex. James and I were talking about it, but he’s certainly one of, if not the most complex characters we’ve seen in the freaking Marvel universe. So he’s deeply complex and deeply powerful, and I hope intriguing. I hope I bring that to it. (Laughs.)

Chukwudi Iwuji was in the midst of shooting the dance sequence opening for Peacemaker when James Gunn pulled him aside to ask him to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. “I literally went from dancing on the soundstage to James saying, ‘Come over here, I want you to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.’” Iwuji explained. “He actually started by saying, ‘I don’t know what your schedule is, but I would love for you to be in Guardians of the Galaxy 3.’ And I remember it was one of the few genuine times of my life where I was speechless. Normally, you find a way of expressing gratitude and whatever, but I was speechless for several seconds. I just looked at him and I was like, ‘Um, yes, okay.’ So that’s how he offered it.”
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has been shooting since November of last year, and James Gunn recently singled Chukwudi Iwuji out for praise. “Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie and people are freaking out over how good this guy is,” Gunn said. “Literally freaking out.” Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
