Guillermo del Toro working with Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick on the new Hulk television series

Last month, word came down the pike that ABC television was in the early stages of bringing The Incredible Hulk to the small screen. Now, it seems we’ve got some pretty great creative talent attached to the project, as Guillermo del Toro and “Battlestar Galactica” producer David Eick are finalizing a deal with ABC and Marvel Television to bring the primetime series to big green life.

According to Deadline, Eick and Del Toro will share a ‘created by’ credit on the series. Eick will write the screenplay while Del Toro may direct the pilot episode (Deadline points out that that’s subject to the busy filmmaker’s availability). Del Toro will also oversee the new design of the Hulk, a creation that will “employ a mixture of prosthetics, puppetry and CGI.” Knowing Del Toro’s proclivity for practical effects (and looking at it from a budgetary point of view), it makes perfect sense and sounds like it could wind up being a pretty interesting creation.

The series will tackle the Hulk’s origin tale again. Bruce Banner will apparently be in his mid-twenties, and as such, “less reactive and more energized as the world is still his oyster.” Del Toro says that he and Eick have “coalesced a respectful but powerful way of retelling the Banner/Hulk story in a fresh way.”

Marvel and ABC are hoping to have the series launch after the release of THE AVENGERS, so a Fall 2012 debut looks to be a strong possibility.
