Godzilla: The Planet Eater

Given a theatrical release in Japan last November, the animated feature film GODZILLA: THE PLANET EATER is now available for viewing around the world via the Netflix streaming service.

THE PLANET EATER brings an end to the animated trilogy that Godzilla's home studio Toho began with GODZILLA: PLANET OF THE MONSTERS and continued with GODZILLA: CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE, both of which are also available for viewing on Netflix.

THE PLANET EATER was directed by Kobun Shizuno from a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi. The film's Netflix page gives the following description:

With the earth alliance weakened, Haruo weighs siding with the Exif, whose death cult is summoning a monster that can destroy the world.

I haven't watched PLANET OF THE MONSTERS or CITY ON THE EDGE OF BATTLE yet, but now that all three films in this anime trilogy have been released I'm going to be catching up on all of them very soon. I was always guaranteed to watch them simply because they're Godzilla movies, but now that I know there's a monster-summoning death cult involved I'm even more excited to check them out.
