Chris Hemsworth in talks to take the lead in Men in Black spinoff

Chris Hemsworth 12 Strong

Apparently not content just to battle aliens as his Marvel character Thor, Chris Hemsworth is now in talks to star in the MEN IN BLACK reboot / spinoff that Sony is developing.

F. Gary Gray is in negotiations to direct the film, which will not feature Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones, the stars of the previous MEN IN BLACK trilogy. This project is being compared to JURASSIC WORLD in the way it will be built upon the established foundation of the previous films, but will have an all-new cast, relaunching the franchise with new characters.

Hemsworth has a charming screen presence and has proven time and again that he has strong comedic skills, so he's definitely a great choice to lead this endeavor.

Written by IRON MAN scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, the story is said to be "a global adventure", with London rumored to be one of the locations.

Sony is looking to make the new MEN IN BLACK "a diverse ensemble", and are considering pairing a white male (Hemsworth, perhaps) with "a female of color and an older man".

They need to get this cast pretty quickly, and need to close those deals with Gray and Hemsworth, because the movie is already scheduled to be released on June 14, 2019.

This new MEN IN BLACK is being produced by Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald, with Steven Spielberg executive producing.
