Hypothermia's new poster would've made great VHS artwork

I don’t know about you guys, but I will watch certain actors regardless of what movie they're appearing in. At the top of my troupe of favorite thespians is Michael Rooker, a man whose performances in HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER and SLITHER distinguished him as one of the finest character actors of his generation. I can watch him in absolutely anything. I mean, if Rooker squared off against something as cliche as a killer underwater creature, I would say “Bring it the f--k on.”

Well, it turns out Dark Sky films is bring exactly that premise into fruition with HYPOTHERMIA. Produced by Larry Fessenden (THE LAST WINTER, HOUSE OF THE DEVIL), HYPOTHERMIA looks like a blast of retro-80s, creature feature fun. Sort of THE THING meets THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. In celebration of the release, Dark Sky commissioned some sweet poster artwork from The Dude Designs (see below). If this was the 80s and I saw that sh*t on a VHS big box, HYPOTHERMIA would have been coming home with me. In fact, if Dark Sky was going to go the VHS special collector’s edition route, I’d be more than down.

HYPOTHERMIA hits DVD on October 2nd. Rooker disciples should go ahead an pre-order the movie and while you’re at it check out that sweet artwork, synopsis, and teaser trailer below.

Ray Pelletier (Michael Rooker, The Walking Dead, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Slither) is looking forward to a quiet weekend of ice fishing with his family at the same peaceful lake they've been visiting for years. Unfortunately for the Pelletiers, the obnoxious big-city father-son duo of Steve and Stevie Cote has picked the same weekend to spend at the remote frozen spot.

The fishermen quickly notice that the fish below the thick ice aren't biting, and Ray thinks the Cotes' state-of-the-art gear, including a loud ice drill, has scared them all away. But the two families' petty squabbles are soon eclipsed by a much greater enemy: Something unnatural and ferocious is under the ice and its prey is human. Miles from civilization and with only a few inches separating them from the freezing water below, the Pelletiers and the Cotes must find a way to work together to fight the vicious creature that's out to hunt them.

Extra Tidbit: Remember that scene in CLIFFHANGER when Rooker's hanging off the cliff and jacks that guy with a shotgun blast? Best action movie sidekick moment ever.
