Joe on 3rd Gremlins

Earlier today we heard director Joel Schumacher’s reaction to the though of the WB doing a STD sequel to his beloved 80s classic THE LOST BOYS, and now it looks like director Joe Dante is jumpin’ on the STD hatin’ bandwagon, as a GREMLINS 3 is possibly looming on the horizon.

Dante and GREMLINS producer Michael Finnell had a chance to talk with MovieHole over the weekend, and they are not pleased with the prospects of a CGI filled Gremlins movie- and who is? I mean, really, is the world calling for another one? Here’s what Dante had to say on the idea: “Gremlins was governed by the technology that produced it. Now it would be CHI, and you could do anything. There may be places for the jokes to go [The White House?]. But you’ve got a company who owns the rights to a movie that they don’t quite understand. I think it’s going to be difficult for them to make another one”.

Let’s hope it’s so difficult that it just doesn’t happen. A CG Gremlin just doesn’t sound like fun- and definitely takes away from the ‘coolness’ factor that the original had going for it.
