Kevin Smith planning a Tusk spin-off to shoot later this year

While I'm not the biggest fan of Kevin Smith's comedies (although I did get a lot of genuine laughs out of JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK), I really enjoyed his RED STATE and am truly looking forward to his body-horror film TUSK, which is set for release this fall. The idea of a man slowly being turned into a walrus is both terrifying and hilarious, and I'm sure Smith will deliver something truly unique with TUSK. Now Screen Daily is reporting that Smith is developing a spin-off of TUSK called YOGA-HOSERS, which is due to start filming later this year.

Like TUSK, YOGA-HOSERS sprang out of a podcast, according to Smith, and the director went on to share a few details as to how it ties into TUSK.

“There are two characters in a convenience store in Tusk that you see for five minutes, very much like Ronsencrantz and Guildenstern. I’ve built a whole movie around them and I have brought one of the other characters from Tusk back.”

Very interesting. Not sure if YOGA-HOSERS will be a darker, more horror-centric tale, but considering he's bringing back characters from TUSK I wouldn't be surprised if it is.

Smith also has a “Creepshow-like horror anthology” called ANTI-CLAUS (formerly COMES THE KRAMPUS) in the works, which has already been pre-sold by distributor XYZ Films. That film also stars his TUSK actors Justin Long and Haley Joel Osment.

There's no denying that Smith is a talented guy, and I love the fact that he's brought his talents to the horror genre. Let's hope he sticks around playing in our sandbox for a while.

TUSK stars Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez and Michael Parks. Demarest (A MOST WANTED MAN, MACHETE KILLS) financed and produced TUSK in partnership with New York-based distributor A24 (SPRING BREAKERS, THE BLING RING), who will release it wide in the third quarter of 2014.

TUSK is a modern-day monster movie that follows a journalist named Wallace (Long) who finds the story of a lifetime in Mr. Howe (Parks), a worldwide adventurer with amazing tales and a curious penchant for walruses.
