Lionsgate buying The Shallows writer’s The French Quarter Will Not Be Spared

The Shallows

Screenwriter Anthony Jaswinski currently has nine writing credits to his name and almost all of the films he has written – the most popular of the bunch being THE SHALLOWS (pictured above) – have been in the horror and thriller genres. That trend continues with his latest spec script sale, as Lionsgate is in final negotiations to purchase his vampire tale THE FRENCH QUARTER WILL NOT BE SPARED.

The film will be produced by black-ish creator Kenya Barris through his company Khalabo Ink Society, along with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company. Josh Feldman will oversee the project for Khalabo.

THE FRENCH QUARTER WILL NOT BE SPARED is said to be "a new take on the vampire genre", with the story being set

in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina.

Exactly what will be going on with these vampires of New Orleans during Katrina is being kept secret for now, but the plan is to turn Jaswinski's script into "a visceral and socially relevant horror film in the vein of A QUIET PLACE or GET OUT".

We'll see how that goes, but in the meantime I'm looking forward to a Jaswinski-scripted vampire movie with a cool title.
