Maleficent summons British screen vets Imelda Staunton & Miranda Richardson

Does this mean Angie will be spouting an English accent as well?!?

THR has learned that Ms. Jolie will be joined in MALEFICENT by British screen vets Imelda Staunton and Miranda Richardson, in addition to the previously announced Elle Fanning and Sharlto Copley. As young as you might think MALEFICENT will skew, you can’t front on the acting talent involved so far with the live-action adaptation. Not for nothing, but Guillermo del Toro voiced interest in directing, so that should give you an idea of the quality of Linda Woolverton’s script. As it is now, Robert Stromberg sits in the director’s chair.

In the film, Staunton and Manville are playing Knotgrass and Flittle, respectively, two of the three pixies that end up taking care of Aurora. (They were fairies in the original tales). Richardson (pictured above) will play Queen Ulla, a Fairy Queen who is Maleficent’s aunt with a dislike of her niece.

MALEFICENT isn’t expected until March 2014.
