While we continue to ponder what the Tremors mini-series starring Kevin Bacon (reprising the role he played in the first TREMORS movie back in 1990) would have been like and why Syfy didn't want to let us see it, the direct-to-video sequel side of the franchise is still going strong. Michael Gross, who has been in all of the TREMORS movies and has been in the lead since TREMORS 3, recently let fans know that he has officially signed on to star in TREMORS 7, and now he has provided the update that the first draft of the screenplay is complete.

Jokingly starting off with the Ernest Hemingway quote "The first draft of anything is shit", Gross went on to say,

Burt Gummer and Tremors fans will want to know I read the first draft of Tremors 7 this weekend, and it is not s**t! Lots of good stuff and good ideas from our initial story conferences at Universal Pictures, but still much to do to get it "just right."

Gross isn't able to offer any more details at this point, and we don't know who is working on the script. It doesn't seem likely that the folks from Stampede Entertainment, the production company that was in control of the first four TREMORS movies and the 2003 TV show, will be involved, as Universal didn't want to work with them (for no apparent reason) on TREMORS 5: BLOODLINES or TREMORS: A COLD DAY IN HELL. It's a shame, because I think the films suffer from the absence of Stampede, with A COLD DAY IN HELL being the low point of the series as far as I'm concerned.

No matter who is writing, directing, or producing TREMORS 7, I hope it's at least a step up from A COLD DAY IN HELL.

I may not be overjoyed with the most recent movies, but I remain a dedicated fan of this franchise so I am excited to get another chance to see Gross step into the boots of Burt Gummer and take on more monsters.
