Chilling Adventures of Sabrina season 2 will be sexier & scarier

Yesterday we passed along the awesome news that Netflix has ordered an additional 16 episodes of their hit Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The freshly ordered 16 episodes will be airing in two part and both parts will begin production sometime in 2019. But if that's too long for more Sabrina, no worries as Part 2 is set to premiere over on Netflix come April. And speaking of the second season, today we have word from the show's creator/executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa himself on what we can expect once the new season lands in April.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa on season 2:

I loved the first half of the first season. I think the second half is even more ambitious. It’s a little sexier, it’s a little scarier. I’m just really excited for people to see it. Lots of romance, lots of horror. It’s really good. I’m really excited about it.

Now I'm all for the second season bringing more scares, but the mention of the new season being "sexier" is a little weird for me. I mean I'm aware that the cast is (probably) in their early twenties at least, but all the same, talk of a high school show being "sexier" strikes me as creepy. But isn't creepy what the show is going for? I guess so, and so maybe these comments aren't as icky as they sound. I'm all for more scares though. Bring 'em on!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE EXORCIST, this adaptation finds

Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

The cast includes Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Tati Gabrielle, Adeline Rudolph, Abigail Cowen, Lachlan Watson, and Gavin Leatherwood. Newcomers for parts 3 & 4 include Jedidiah Goodacre as Dorian Gray and Alexis Denisof as Mary Wardwell’s boyfriend, Adam Masters. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also serves as chief creative officer of Archie Comics, is showrunner for the series. Aguirre-Sacasa executive produces alongside Riverdale collaborators Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger. The drama hails from Warner Bros. Television-based Berlanti Productions.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Parts 3 & 4 will begin production in 2019. Part 2 is set to premiere April 5, 2019.
