Open Water 3: Cage Dive Gerald Rascionato

Today a new installment has been added to Lionsgate's makeshift OPEN WATER franchise with the theatrical and VOD release of OPEN WATER 3: CAGE DIVE. As with OPEN WATER 2: ADRIFT, this one was never intended to be an OPEN WATER movie – it's a found footage shark thriller acquisition that Lionsgate just decided to add the OPEN WATER title on to.

Directed by Gerald Rascionato, who crafted the story with Stephen Lister, OPEN WATER 3: CAGE DIVE tells the story of

three American tourists who are making an audition tape of a shark cage dive for a reality TV show. A catastrophic turn of events leaves them stranded in the waters of South Australia surrounded by hungry great white sharks.

That "catastrophic turn of events" is a tidal wave that overturns the dive boat, as you can see in the clips below. The first clip shows a news report of the dive boat ordeal, while the second is footage that was shot by one of the characters as the wave hit and flipped the boat.

Tired of the found footage style, I'm in no hurry to watch OPEN WATER 3: CAGE DIVE, but I will be watching it eventually.

The film stars Joel Hogan, Josh Potthoff, Megan Peta Hill, and Pete Valley.
