Original Predator script gets 5-part Dark Horse comic in June

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

We already know that Dark Horse has a comic series headed our way in April that will adapt screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's original ALIEN script into a graphic novel. And today we hear that the same is in-line for PREDATOR as well with Dark Horse adapting James E. Thomas and John C. Thomas' unused PREDATOR screenplay into a five-issue comic book miniseries.

The version that made it to theaters in 1987 was still penned by the Thomas Brothers but writer Jeremy Barlow (ALIEN VS. PREDATOR: THICKER THAN BLOOD) and artist Patrick Blaine (STAR WARS: EMPIRE) will be working from the original 1984 script titled HUNTERS.

Barlow said:

There’s excitement in seeing what might have been. The bones of Predator are there, but the original idea was so different and in some ways, much deeper than what the movie became — and we lean hard into those differences. Turn all of that over to a pair of dynamic artists like Patrick Blaine and Andy Owens, and the results are spectacular. Predator fans are going to lose their minds!

Blaine added:

The first Predator movie is such an iconic, cultural classic. To be involved with Dark Horse, re-imagining it from the original script, is an artist's dream come true! Jeremy Barlow's script adaptation has been a pure joy to work from, and I think fans of the genre will enjoy this wild new ride through a familiar old tale!

For those that might not know, PREDATOR centers on Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a soldier of fortune, who is hired by the U.S. government to secretly rescue a group of politicians trapped in Guatemala. But when Dutch and his team, which includes weapons expert Blain (Jesse Ventura) and CIA agent George (Carl Weathers), land in Central America, something is gravely wrong. After finding a string of dead bodies, the crew discovers they are being hunted by a brutal creature with superhuman strength and the ability to disappear into its surroundings.
