Robert Rodriguez-produced Curandero: Dawn of the Demon finally hits DVD in March

Made about eight years ago by executive producer Robert Rodriguez and director Eduardo Rodriguez, CURANDERO: DAWN OF THE DEMON is finally seeing the light of day thanks to Lionsgate and Miramax. The thriller will be unveiled on DVD and Video On Demand March 12th.

Curandero: Dawn of the Demon is an action-packed horror flick that takes a couple on a horrifying journey through the deepest bowels of the Mexican underworld. When beautiful federal agent Magdalena calls upon the local curandero (Carlos Gallardo, from Rodriguez’s EL MARIACHI) for his services to purify a police station, the two of suddenly find themselves immersed in a satanic cult’s blood-thirsty battleground.

CUARANDERO premiered at Screamfest in 2005 but never received a proper release because of the problems that arose when the Weinstein brothers (who produced) split with Miramax. It should be pretty cool to get a look at this lost gem; the reviews were very positive out of Screamfest, and director Eduardo Rodriguez has gone on to direct the action thrillers STASH HOUSE (starring Dolph Lundgren) and EL GRINGO (starring Scott Adkins). He’s currently at work on the direct-to-video FRIGHT NIGHT sequel. Robert Rodriguez co-wrote and produced along with then-wife Elizabeth Avellan.
