Despite being largely absent the genre for two decades, is there anyone willing to dispute Sigourney Weaver’s status as a genre icon? C’mon…it’s f*ckin’ Ripley and Dana Barrett for crying out loud!

Which is exactly why, when the lovely lady (seen right) opens her mouth about our beloved line of cinema, we listen with rather large ears. You may recall she has a slew of new horror-ish titles in the works, one of them being Amy Heckerling’s satirical VAMPS. Well, Weaver touched base with the L.A. Times and served a kernel of detail about her character. Check it…

When speaking of VAMPS, a horror comedy that reunites Heckerling with her CLUELESS star Alicia Silverstone (below), Weaver responded with: “Everything sucks these days!”

“A daughter of a friend of mine says that — ‘Everything sucks these days’ — because there are vampires everywhere on TV and in movies. This one is kind of a goofy comedy about these two nice young vampires who are trying to go straight. I play someone who is absolutely dyed-in-the-wool vampire, I just love what I do, I love killing people and drinking their blood.”

Trust us, we love when you kill people and drink their blood too, Sigourney. And yes, when it comes to vampires these days, everything does suck. Hopefully VAMPS will do its best to rectify that when it chomps theaters sometime next year.

“My character is very funny but she hasn’t seen the light,” continued Weaver. “She’s a creature of the night and she loves her job. It was delicious.”

VAMPS also stars Krysten Ritter, Dan Stevens, Richard Lewis, Wallace Shawn, Malcolm McDowell, Justin Kirk, Zak Orth, Kristen Johnson, Natalie Gal, Scott Thompson, Todd Barry, Meredith Scott Lynn and Marilu Henner.
