Trailer: Amazon’s adaptation of Garth Ennis’ The Boys starring Karl Urban

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

I've been in possession of three volumes of Garth Ennis' comic books series THE BOYS for years now, and I recently started giving them a look-see a month or so ago. They're pretty killer. And thus, with my growing fandom of the comic, my interest in the upcoming Amazon Prime adaptation starring Karl Urban, Elisabeth Shue, Jack Quaid, and Simon Pegg is growing. I'm not sure if this series should be considered 'horror', but it sure it violent and depraved enough to get the genre's seal of approval, so we'll go ahead and give it a try here at AITH with the show's new trailer.

Here's a rundown on the plot:

The series is set in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the superheroes in the series' universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. For this reason, a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as "The Boys", is charged with monitoring the superhero community; the name is Butcher's contribution, a reference from his neighborhood that those in power would send "the boys" to handle anyone causing trouble.

The trailer also features the show's first teaser so make sure to keep watching. The teaser showcases Elizabeth Shue's character getting us up to speed on superheroes before the titular 'Boys" give her commercial the big old finger. Give it a watch below and then let us know what you think!

The series is based on THE BOYS by Garth Ennis (PREACHER) and Darick Robertson and was developed for TV by Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen (KNOCKED UP). It's all set to star Karl Urban, Elisabeth Shue, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, Nathan Mitchell, Laz Alonso, Jack Quaid, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Kapon, Jennifer Esposito, and Simon Pegg as Hughie's father.
