The Dark Tower rated PG-13 for "sequences of gun violence & action"

It was just the other day that we shared the news with you guys that the feature adaptation of Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER now has a quick running time of just 95 mins. Today we have not only the director's thoughts on this aspect of the film, but we also have the film's rating!

The MPAA has officially rated Stephen King's THE DARK TOWER PG-13 for "thematic material including sequences of gun violence and action"

Wait! Before you get all up in arms, this isn't a bad thing. I anticipated this. It means the film has a better chance at mass appeal, meaning we may get R-rated sequels and a darker, more violent TV series. It's all good. I have faith this will work - for now.

Now, as mentioned above director Nikolaj Arcel has some thoughts of the film's running time. He took to Reddit to address these issues and here is what he wrote:

This film really serves as an introduction to the saga and I've always felt that we should not try to cram every single part of the massive mythology, including all the great characters and storylines, into one film. Obviously, the story is supposed to continue in future films and the TV series. Hopefully, at the end of it all, there won't be a single thing from the novels that we haven't touched upon in some way.

So there you have it, THE DARK TOWER is officially rated PG-13 and the running time is a tight 95 mins. Now, all we need to do is see the damn film already! I know I'm counting down the days. How about you? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

THE DARK TOWER film synopsis:

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King's The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world's most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen.  The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O'Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

THE DARK TOWER is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Tom Taylor, Fran Kranz, Jackie Earle Haley, Katheryn Winnick, and Abbey Lee.

THE DARK TOWER hits theaters nationwide August 4th.

King's CHRISTINE is rumored to have a cameo in THE DARK TOWER...

Extra Tidbit: "Gun violence". Interesting. If the MPAA is gonna be that specific, they are gonna have a hell of a time when it comes time to rate a new Friday the 13th flick.
