The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel isn’t due until 2014 at the earliest

This “news” probably won’t exactly come as a shock, but I suppose it’s worth noting, all the same: Entertainment Weekly has exclusively learned that the sequel to David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO is A) still moving forward and, B) definitely not due until 2014 at the earliest.

Not a shock because you would have to figure we’d be aware already if the second chapter in the so-called “Millennium Series,” titled THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, was moving forward imminently. Studios like to lock in their release dates well in advance, especially when it comes to event films.

Furthermore, it’s no secret that David Fincher is a meticulous worker, and his productions are never short; they’d have to get moving pronto in order to nail down a late-Fall 2013 date. (The last film opened in December, and we’ll assume they’re looking at the same month for part two.)

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Steven Zaillian is still working on the script, and nothing will move forward until the screenplay is nailed down. While there’s still no director attached, Fincher remains the first choice and hasn’t ruled out returning.”

Rooney Mara (pictured below) and Daniel Craig are both pinned down for FIRE.
